Books That I Haven’t Read & Probably Won’t Any Time Soon

this is hilarious, and i agree with most of them. i will, however, try to read at least one ayn rand. just so i can say i did.

For one reason or another I have made a list in my mind of books that I really have no interest in reading.  I guess I can be a cynical bastard.  I see it like being at a party, and for one reason or another, there are certain people that just put you off because of their attitude, demeanor, or any infinite number of things.  Sometimes our minds are just made up.  When you have a whole host of other options in front of you to read, it is hard to press on with books you are wishy-washy about to begin with.  These are a few that won’t be getting read at my place anytime soon.  If you want to try to convince me otherwise, please do!

1) Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes

It’s huge.  And dry.  I know I should read it, but there are so many others out in front of it.

2) Anything by Ayn Rand

I don’t like watching infomercials and I certainly don’t like 1000+ page infomercials in book form.  I tried once upon a time, but my goodness, there is no soul in it.

3) Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

Absolutely no reason.

4) Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood

Guilty by association, I’m afraid.  I dated a girl who wouldn’t shut up about this book.  She dumped me, I dumped the book.

5) Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

There is nothing about the title or author that makes me jump & shout.  Both sound so, well, blah.  A satire of 19th century English life.  Sleep.

6) Anything by Gertrude Stein

I find her painful to read.  She is smarter than me and I have no idea what she is talking about.  Simple as that.

7) The Man in the Iron Mask by Alexandre Dumas

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my all-time favorite books, but I see Leo DiCaprio every time I look at this one.  Shame.

8) Any Vampire book besides Dracula

I tried.  I tried Ann Rice.  I won’t be trying Twilight.  Just not my thing.  I really liked Dracula, too.
